Religion is basis of morality?

RELIGION IS BASIS OF MORALITY…true or false?

Hearing Richard Dawkins would smell of someone who is a complete agnostic and disbeliever in God. I was Into a self inquiry into his work and he mentioned that there is no evidence to prove that if you take religion away from people then morality would die. I disagree with him and would say that if we indeed look at corporate enterprise and the way they are structured…the morality takes super normal existence where people from multi faith and multi background assemble for economic purpose. But the more closely I see the corporate space in India and elsewhere, there are more people throwing the veil of morality for achieving urgent purpose…so people working in corporate would cheat, would back bite, would spread rumours, would even sabotage somebody else’s hardwork, even weigh every work ( which needs to be looked at as karma) with payscale to the penny…I am not proposing religion to be misunderstood or introduced in corporate world. All i believe is that even before science came to being in the last 500 odd years and religion into being over some thousand years ago, humans existed and there were morality and virtue. It just so happened that with expansion of population, with increasing complexity of life being, with migration of people…it took shape of a cult or a sect or a category and hence got coded as religion. However people with vested interests have manipulated masses by using religion as a tool.

My take is that people do need a tool for gauging, palping, sensing, thinking morality in everything one does. However science in its quest for empirical evidence would take long time to get there. Meanwhile there has to be a leap and perhaps religion provides the leap…it’s on an individual to however exercise “Vivek” or discretion as there are no thumb rules.

OBEDIENCE TO AUTHORITY leads Predisposition to BELIEF in GOD. HItchens and Dawkins believe that the first form of culture is exposed at home by parents to a child…to do and things not to do. In so doing, parents impart explanations on why to do a thing and why not to do a thing. Because 90 percent of the world follows some form of religion and each religion has GOD, the explanations given by parents somehow do not follow the moral chain which is Thinking…feeling…action…good outcome vs bad outcome…more good outcomes important than more bad outcomes…others important than selfishness…etc. Parents take the leap and talk reward or punishment for the child and that GOD is the adjudicator. It skips causal explanations around good or bad.

Now Dawkins and HItchens go on to say that this is Darwinian phenomenon where survival is contingent or dependent on fittest as also following authority. In this case parents are the immediate authority and the community that parents are in, also have community heads who propogate the same things. So parents teach GODhood and not strong linkage to an even primitive moral code of conduct.

My Inquiry continues…

But here is the quick summary…

…..Exhibiting survival instinct is important for self…THe life of human life is in Living and living calls for survival instincts

….The whole universe is a great and huge mall of resources (food, water as very basic). Only that these resources are now far far away from us geographically as they get produced at different  spread out locations..and why…because we have chosen to chase money which will get us the resources near our doorstep. In so doing, there is bound to be inelasticity or demand-supply mismatch of earning opportunities and hence money in hand which in turn will lead to inequal distribution of these resources. So the chase is to earn as much possible in shortest time and somehow mentally secure the basic resources for future.

…not only that, we have created some more artificial resources which we believe now and has got wired in our brains…INTANGIBLEs like praise for work done, recognition, merit list, top chart,  power, authority, designations, etc….TANGIBLES like material pleasures of homes, cars, compensation, etc.

….Now if we simply apply Darwins theory of evolution…because we feel that the resources (basic life need of food and water) is as or more important that the INTANGIBLE AND TANGIBLE products (as described above)…we all behave to compete with one another …the same survival instinct. In so doing, we create walls of small groups …….in offices, in friend circles, in society with neighbours…and each day begins and Fleets and ends by discussing about the others and perhaps unknowingly thinking even ill about others or thinking about oneself as superior to others. In some sense, the competition for TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE TO ME IS LIKE THE WORLD WAR THREE. We don’t need to look for another world war…it’s happening right here…right now…everywhere. The competition for basic resources, tangibles and intangibles are already WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.

…these weapons of mass destruction are already destroying values, virtues, morals and making us do things which perhaps we would have either hated or disowned as child or reaching to the youth.

…IDEALISM of virtues, values, morals are giving way for IDOLISMS of CELEBRITIES with dazzling success

DON’T BE IDLE,
LOOK FOR IDEAL,
JUST DON’T LOOK FOR WRONG IDOL.

The morals of the story is to have a life story of morals.
