Meditating & also Salesforce CEO
Marc Benioff (extreme right) meditating at Daikaku-ji Temple In Kyoto.
He is admirer and follower of Dalai Lama. Here is an excerpt from his interview:
"I am very interested in keeping a clear head. So I enjoy meditation, which I've been doing for over a decade -- probably to help relieve the stress I was going through when I was working at Oracle. I also started a yoga practice at the same time. We do have a yoga class at Salesforce.com for our employees twice a week". " Today, I don't carry a cell phone or a Blackberry, because those precious moments that I have walking down the street or being in the car, I value. As soon as I get into the office or home, I'm connected."
Benioff pioneered the 1/1/1 Integrated Philanthropic model, by which companies contribute 1 percent of profits, 1 percent of equity, and 1 percent of employee hours back to the communities it serves. Parts of this 1/1/1 model have been adopted by many other companies, including Google.
In 2010 Fortune named him one of the Smartest 50 People in Tech as well as one of the Top 50 People in Business. He was appointed by President George W. Bush as the co-chairman of the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee.
2. Today's Daily Tiny Act: Last Mile Difficult Mile
"While reaching the office/meeting/home, walk the last 10 minutes without gadgets ".
Snippets around Last Mile Difficult Mile:
- as Michael J. Sandel, American Political Philosopher & Professor of Justice at Harvard University, would say that there is merit in constantly running into strangers and observing them. As people we need to develop mindfulness that through our actions, we impact these lives as well. Also these run-ins help develop insights of reality.
- 10 Minute Reality check also helps understand the environmental difficulty ...the heat/rains/cold, etc which enivronment and a large population is enduring.
- Pushing oneself for this 10 minute unfriendly/difficult task will help build the "Will" in phenomenal ways. As Bruce Lee
would find out one boredom or monotony or frivolous or difficult task
each day and build his stoicisim by doing them in tiny manner.
